If I'm being completely honest, this particular hotel might not be superior to several other options available throughout Rome. While reading reviews is undoubtedly a crucial step, it's equally important to choose a hotel that aligns with one's specific requirements. In our case, what made this option a slightly better fit was its location in a quieter neighborhood.
Understandably, some travelers prefer to be in the heart of the action, surrounded by the vibrant energy of the city center. For those seeking such an experience, there are numerous hotels available that offer close proximity to the bustling city center.
Where We Ate
In the bustling streets of Rome, we found ourselves torn between two desires. On one hand, we longed to venture off the beaten path and discover lesser-known gems, hidden away from the hordes of tourists. On the other hand, we couldn't ignore the allure of the Piazza Navona, with its captivating ambiance and irresistible charm. Besides, our stomachs were rumbling, making the decision all the more challenging.
After much contemplation, we followed our hunger pangs to a restaurant tucked away in the square. The wafting aroma of freshly made pizza and pasta enticed us, and we eagerly ordered our meals and accompanying drinks.
Undeniably, the food was delicious, and our appetites were satiated. However, as self-proclaimed non-foodies, we couldn't help but wonder if we could have discovered an even more extraordinary culinary experience. Our suspicions arose when we didn't receive the customary assortment of snacks to enjoy alongside our drinks. Additionally, the early dinner service seemed tailored to cater to tourists instead of locals.
Nonetheless, we found it difficult to harbor any complaints when we reminded ourselves of the location – Rome, the Eternal City. We were engulfed in the historical and cultural magnificence that surrounded us. The vibrant conversations, the laughter, and the clinking of glasses created an atmosphere that was truly unforgettable.
It’s Okay to be a Typical Tourist Sometimes…
Reflecting upon our time in Rome, we offer a piece of advice to fellow travelers: while venturing off the beaten path can lead to extraordinary experiences, there is no shame in embracing the touristy aspects as well. Sometimes, being a typical tourist is precisely what we desire – to witness the iconic sights, sample the popular delicacies, and immerse ourselves in the local culture. It allows us to appreciate both the well-known treasures and the hidden gems that lie beneath the surface.

What We Saw
Our first stop on the enchanting streets of Rome was none other than the world-famous Trevi Fountain. As we approached the majestic landmark, the vibrant energy of the crowd engulfed us. Though tempted to linger and soak in its beauty, the sheer volume of visitors urged us to continue our exploration. We quickly learned that early mornings are the key to uncovering its enchantment in tranquility. Arriving early allows one to appreciate the intricacy of its sculpted marvels, as the sun's gentle rays cast elegant shadows upon the turquoise waters.
Adjacent to the Trevi Fountain, the acclaimed Spanish Steps beckoned us. However, we soon discovered that these steps too were a hotspot frequented by eager onlookers seeking a glimpse into the timeless charm of Rome.
Next on our itinerary was the Pantheon. Although we didn't venture inside, the grandeur of the Pantheon's facade was a sight to behold. Its towering columns and intricately carved details invited us to pause for a moment.
With each step we took along Rome's ancient cobblestone streets, we uncovered hidden treasures and marveled at the myriad of historical wonders.
We didn't manage to visit Vatican City or the more popular basilicas, but we stumbled upon a true hidden gem: Sant’Andrea della Valle. I must say, it took our breath away. One valuable lesson we learned in Europe is that there's an abundance of cathedrals and churches scattered throughout the cities that are just as awe-inspiring as the famous ones.
Our journey through Rome led us also to the marvelous Piazza Navona, our final stop. Standing at the center of this bustling square filled with vibrant life was a sight to behold.
We couldn't resist exploring the cobbled streets of Rome late into the night. The city's walkability is truly remarkable. As we meandered through its enchanting alleys and charming neighborhoods, we discovered another side of Rome's personality. The soft glow of streetlights illuminated ancient ruins and architectural masterpieces, making for a serene and magical atmosphere.

We couldn't end our night without indulging in some mouthwatering gelato and drinks. Trusting the advice of the locals, we embarked on a journey to find the perfect gelato shop. According to the insiders, a telltale sign of high-quality gelato is that it doesn't tower precariously above the trays along with overly fake vibrant coloring. This indicates the absence of excessive preservatives and artificial colors, ensuring a truly authentic treat.
After careful consideration, we settled on Venchi as our choice for the evening. While uncertainty lingered in our minds, our doubts quickly faded away as the flavors engulfed our taste buds. Though an unfortunate incident occurred as I ventured to cross the street, resulting in my gelato landing in my hand, a swift slap returned it to its rightful place atop the cone. Thankfully, my trusty hand wipes saved the day! In a funny way, this incident served as a testament to the gelato's quality, since it began to melt almost instantly. ;P
We finally wandered back to our hotel, exhaustion clinging to our weary feet. Seeking solace at our hotel, we found ourselves ascending to the rooftop bar, craving a well-deserved respite. As we sipped on our ice-cold beers, we couldn't help but admire the stunning panorama that unfolded before us. The twinkling city lights danced across the landscape, casting an enchanting spell on our tired souls.
